Harbor Point is a LEED-ND Gold Certified, mixed-use, transit oriented development in the South End of Stamford. The development began construction in 2009 and comprises 100 acres with over 30 retailers and 14 restaurants.
After an exhaustive review of many possible venues, we chose venues on Harbor Point for the reunion and after party because of its vibrancy, waterfront location, direct Western exposure, allowing us to share a sunset together (weather permitting). The proximity of venues facilitates the seamless flow of the event. The venues for the reunion and after party, Sign of the Whale and Fortina, are a 2 minute walk from each other.
Harbor Point enables us to blend the old and the new about Stamford. It’s one of the many things to be proud about in your hometown today. Those of us who grew up in Stamford in the 1960s and 1970s witnessed urban renewal and the work of F.D. Rich. Stamford’s redevelopment and re-purposing continues today in dramatic fashion.
The location for the reunion is in the waterfront part of the Harbor Point development which opened in 2012. In addition to the reunion events, you can stroll on the lovely Harbor Point waterfront promenade with beautiful views of the West Branch of Stamford Harbor and the Long Island Sound, share swings built for two, sit in the central plaza or take a stroll in the Harbor Point Commons Park which is across Washington Blvd from the location for the Viking After Party.
About the Venue: Sign Of The Whale is one of the most popular bar/restaurants in Stamford and is a vibrant unique venue featuring over 10,000 square feet of space 5,000 sq ft downstairs with massive long bar and 5,000 sq ft on the roof).
On a prime Saturday night in the summer, we have a buyout of the entire 5,000 square foot downstairs at Sign of The Whale during the time of the reunion. Partytime 79 will go ahead come rain or shine and/or come 98% humidity. We'll get you schvitzing on the dance floor instead!
The Music: Over the course of the reunion and after party, we will be "Right Back Where We Started From" and our celebration will include a diverse mix of six and a half hours of DJ and live music featuring the nostalgic grooves of the 1970s and 1980s with selections from other decades thrown in. Bring your dancing shoes. Get your tickets to a "Boogie Night" on the "The Groove Line".
If there is a nostalgic song that has particular meaning to you or your friends please let us know and we'll try to work it in.
Music at SOTW will be zoned between the dance floor at the North end of the bar and the other part of our space so that those who want to dance can and those who want to mingle can do so in complete harmony.
Heavy appetizers and cash bar. Much better for a summer event where we all want to mingle. The focus of the food choices will favor non messy, grab and go style.
We are working on "mocktails" and alternative beverages for non drinkers and light drinkers besides water and carbonated sodas. Please advise a committee member if you have any dietary restrictions and we will work with the venue to do our best to attempt to make reasonable accommodations. We want everyone to have a great time.
The Reunion will go on rain or shine
Attendees can hang out on the roof, although we will not have the exclusive on that. We opted for the downstairs to cover rain and heat contingencies and so that noise restrictions do not come into play.
